OBS as a player for the relay stream
OBS Studio can receive the incoming relay stream as a Media Source – for local monitoring or further processing. In this workflow OBS is not a publisher to the relay; it is a player.
Set up a media source
- Open OBS and add a new Media Source.
- Disable “Local file” so a URL can be entered.
- Copy the player URL from the panel and paste it into the URL field.
- Confirm with OK – OBS connects to the relay stream.
Always copy from the panel: Host and port can differ by configuration. The player URL is not the same as the publish URL.
When this helps
- Local preview while you publish from mobile
- Extra overlays or scenes in OBS before forwarding
- Debugging: is video/audio arriving at the relay?
Publish vs. play
To send to the relay with OBS, use RTMP/RTMPS as a custom server – see RTMP/RTMPS with OBS. The player URL is receive-only.
Limits: Players per stream are limited (base plus loyalty bonuses). Details are in the panel and under Loyalty.
