About IRL.com.de

IRL.com.de is a free, Germany-based platform for IRL streaming. Here you can learn how the project came about, who is behind it, what technologies are used and what values drive us.

What is IRL.com.de?

IRL.com.de provides streamers with a free stream relay – via SRT/SRTLA for mobile IRL streaming with link bonding, or via RTMP/RTMPS for classic encoders and apps. The entire service runs on own infrastructure in Germany, without dependency on third-party cloud services. This means full data control, GDPR compliance and a stable connection with German hosting conditions.

The core product is a relay that receives your stream and makes it available for players and forwarding targets. With SRTLA you can bundle multiple internet connections simultaneously (link bonding) – ideal on the go. With RTMP/RTMPS you stream from OBS, vMix, action cams or other RTMP-capable sources directly to the relay. You then forward the signal to Twitch, YouTube, Kick or other target platforms via configurable push targets.

How did the project come about?

IRL.com.de was born from a personal need: as an IRL streaming enthusiast and developer, the operator was looking for a simple, free way to run a stream relay with SRTLA and RTMP – without relying on expensive commercial providers or complicated self-hosting setups.

Existing open-source projects such as OpenIRL/srtla-receiver (SRTLA) and OpenRTMP with librtmp2-server (RTMP) provided a technical foundation, but lacked ease of use: no web interface, no automatic account management, no documented setup for beginners. IRL.com.de was created to fill this gap.

Today the platform offers a complete web panel, OAuth login via Twitch and Kick, real-time statistics and a documented setup guide – all free and without a registration form.

Who is behind IRL.com.de?

IRL.com.de is operated by Alexander Wagner, a full-stack developer and DevOps engineer from Vienna, Austria. The operator specialises in PHP web development, Docker-based infrastructure, Linux server administration and open-source software development.

The project is not a commercial venture, but a private open-source endeavour born from a personal interest in streaming technology. All server costs are borne by the operator personally.

Technology & Infrastructure

IRL.com.de uses a modern, Dockerised stack. Here is an overview of the core technologies in use:

SRTLA / OpenIRL SRTLA server backend based on OpenIRL/srtla-receiver, adapted for production use
RTMP / OpenRTMP RTMP/RTMPS ingest via librtmp2-server (OpenRTMP) – legacy RTMP and Enhanced RTMP (e-rtmpv1/v2), complementing SRTLA
Docker & Linux All services run containerised under Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) on own hardware
PHP (Backend / Panel) The web panel and main website are built in PHP without heavyweight frameworks
Nginx As reverse proxy, SSL termination and static file server for all web components
MariaDB Relational database for account data, stream configurations and user information
Twitch & Kick OAuth Authentication exclusively via the official OAuth APIs of the streaming platforms
Proxmox / LXC Server virtualisation and container management on own hardware in Germany
Let's Encrypt / HTTPS All web connections are secured with current TLS certificates
